Youtube has changed their policy on music that has been included with video submission. It appears that Youtube has begun to mute the audio of videos that have been submitted using audio tracks that have not met all copyright requirements. This is a major change for Youtube and will no doubt cause ripples within the Youtube user community. You will notice that a large number of videos are now without sound and include a notice displayed with the video indicating that reads: This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by all copyright holders.

Videos can still be submitted without music or you can utilize the free service that Youtube provides, which by the way now has an expanded music list. Apparently Youtube saw the wisdom in working a new arrangement with RumbleFish to expand their library of music tracks that Youtube video account holders can pull from. The only caviat. Once you swap the original audio track on your video using Youtube's free service, Google can and does run content ads on your video while it's being viewed. These content ads follow the video to Facebook and other sites that you may have linked your Youtube videos to. Google is likely going to see some nice revenue gains from this latest move. Advertisers are going to be excited about getting their brand names in front of so many users. The bet by Youtube and Google is, the Youtube user community will accept the change.

Give Google credit for a very smart marketing move. In the end, there is an option available on the video that allows you to click the ads off. I suspect knowing the Youtube community, many will hit the "X" option and close the ads out while they enjoy the video.

Check out this link on Youtube to see how the new Content ad option is working. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNfANTUC5AA)
